October 2026

Fall Brings a Full Calendar of Activities to the Thurmont Senior Center

As October arrives, the Thurmont Senior Center is welcoming fall with a mix of familiar weekly programs, special events, educational opportunities, and plenty of chances for local seniors to gather and socialize.

The month begins with Craftin’ in the Catoctins, the center’s weekly creative program. October projects include Mini Canvas Art on October 1, Picture Perfect Pumpkins on October 6, Scarecrows on October 15, and an Upcycled Wine Bottle Vase on October 27. The center also continues its Stitch & Chat gathering, Cards & Games, and other regular social activities throughout the month.

Health and wellness remain an important part of the center’s October schedule. Strength & Balance classes continue throughout the month, along with Chair Dancing on Monday afternoons and Zumba Gold with Kellie Bevard on Friday mornings. An Introduction to Tai Chi will be offered on October 7, 14, 21, and 28. On October 13, the center will host an Introduction to Forrest Bathing. A “Be Fall Smart” presentation by Pivot Physical Therapy on October 22 will focus on fall awareness and prevention.

October also offers several opportunities for personal wellness. Manicure Mondays will be held throughout the month by appointment, and a seated massage event with Marie is scheduled for October 15. A flu shot clinic will be held October 19, and Medicaid and Medicare appointments will be available October 20 for those who call ahead.

Community and social activities continue to be a big part of life at the center. 50/50 BINGO will be held October 7 and 21 at 1:00 p.m. The center will also hold its monthly birthday party on October 16, giving members an opportunity to celebrate those with October birthdays.

The Thurmont Senior Center will also take part in the busy Colorfest weekend with a yard sale scheduled for October 8-10. Drop by and see all the treasures for sale.

On October 28, members will gather for a potluck luncheon and general meeting at noon. The month will wrap up with a Halloween Luncheon and Costume Contest on October 30.

With activities ranging from exercise and wellness programs to crafts, games, educational presentations, and special gatherings, October promises to be another busy month at the Thurmont Senior Center. The center continues to provide local 55+ seniors with opportunities to stay active, learn something new, and, perhaps most importantly, spend time with friends and neighbors.
