Thurmont Senior Center

As summer winds down and the first hints of fall arrive, the Thurmont Senior Center is gearing up for a busy September, filled with opportunities to get active, get creative, learn something new, and, perhaps most importantly, spend time with friends.
Our regular exercise schedule continues throughout the month, including Chair Exercise at 9:30 a.m.; Strength and Balance Class at 10:30 a.m.; Chair Yoga on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.; and, for just $5.00, we offer Zumba Gold with Kellie Bevard on Fridays at 9:30 a.m. These classes offer a great way to keep moving while enjoying the encouragement and companionship of others.
September also brings plenty of opportunities for games and socializing. Cards and games are offered throughout the month. Our popular 50/50 Bingo returns on September 2, 16, and 30, at 1:00 p.m. The Senior Center’s monthly Birthday Party will be held Friday, September 18, at 12:30 p.m.
If you’re looking for something creative to do, Craftin’ in the Catoctins has a full lineup of fall-inspired projects. Participants can make a Fall Gnome Door Hanger on September 3, Whimsical Crows on September 8, a sunset Kinusaiga project on September 15, Pretty Little Rocks through rock painting on September 24, and a charming Book Witch on September 29. These projects are a wonderful opportunity to try something new and enjoy some creative time with friends.
September’s special programs offer something for just about every interest. Seated Massage with Marie Free will be available on September 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at $1.00 per minute. Travel without leaving Thurmont on September 21 with “Armchair Travel: India,” sponsored by Frederick County Public Libraries. Music lovers won’t want to miss the September 23 concert, featuring award-winning fiddle player Deej Kessinger at 1:00 p.m. On September 25 at 12:30 p.m., the “Solo Together” program will feature a guest speaker discussing downsizing.
And, of course, there’s always room for a little pampering and conversation. Manicure Mondays are scheduled throughout the month by appointment, while Chair Dancing is offered Mondays at 12:30 p.m. Stitch & Chat will meet September 14 at 1:00 p.m.
The Senior Center will be closed on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day. Please note that the Center will also close at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, for a board meeting.
We also want to remind the community that the Thurmont Senior Center is available to rent. Our facility can be a great option for meetings, gatherings, celebrations, classes, and other community activities.
