June News

We want you to think of the center as a happy place where we can get together and enjoy one another’s company.  We would love to have you come in and have some fun with us.

We had a great month of May.  We had another great turn out for our Bingo’s. May had 5 Wednesday’s so we had a special bingo on the 5th Wednesday, in which we will be donating the proceeds to the Town of Thurmont Summer Camps program. On May 15th the 4H redid our flower beds as a community project.  We were thrilled with the work they did.   Did you notice our new sign?  We are so excited that with the help of a grant we were able to purchase the beautiful sign.  We would also like to say a great big thank you to the Rocky Ridge Fire Hall, our last Bingo we were able to donate the proceeds to the Fire Company and they unanimously voted to give it back to the Senior Center, how wonderful is that.

I would like to invite you to coffee on Tuesdays at 10:00 am; this is a time for us to get to know one another.  We would love for you to come by for a cuppa and a visit.

We would love for you to join us for Yoga on Monday’s and Zumba on Friday’s they are $5.00 a class or 8 classes for $24.00 We also offer a free balance and strength exercise session daily, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday beginning at 11:00-11:45. Thursday’s at 12:30 we are playing dominoes We also play Bingo every 1st, 3rd, and 5th Wednesday of the month, if we have a 5th Wednesday, we have a special Bingo. It is always a fun time full of laughter and special homemade treats for halftime. Healthy Eating group is meeting Tuesday’s at 10 am. Of course, we can’t forget to mention our coffee time on Tuesday’s at 10:00 am. Friday’s we have Poker and 500.

We will be having our monthly fundraiser at Roy Roger’s on June 8th, 2023 from 5 -8 pm. Come out and see us and get some delicious food as well as our phenomenal goodies.

Remember we have delicious lunches served every day at 12:00.  We love getting meals from several locations in Thurmont. We would like to thank Bollinger’s, Fratelli’s, Mountain Gate, Rocky’s, and Kountry Kitchen for partnering with us. The meals are $6.00 each. We would love to share a meal with you.  Please call the day before to sign up for lunch.  Menus are at the center and online on Facebook and our website thurmontseniorcenter.org

Here at the center, we are concerned for your well-being.  If there is anything we can do to assist you in any way we would love to be of help.  Just reach out to us and let us know what your needs are.  If it is something we can’t do we will try our best to find you the resources you need. We have had SOAR Supporting Older Adults through Resources here to speak and they have a lot of resources for seniors we didn’t know about.

A note about a new policy effective immediately for the Thurmont Senior Center.  Although we love animals, we are only allowing ADA certified service animals in the center going forward.  I know that this may be difficult for some but the Board of Directors wanted to make sure that there is a clear policy in place.  Maryland Service Animal Law applies to guide dogs, signal dogs and other animals that are individually trained to perform tasks for people with disabilities.  Thank you for your understanding.

The Thurmont Senior Center is available to rent for different activities as well. Like perhaps a baby shower, a birthday party or a bridal shower.

As always if you have questions don’t hesitate to call us at 301-271-7911.

Don’t forget it is free to join the center.  Some activities may have a minimal cost but to join the center is absolutely free.
