Winter has brought us some crazy weather this year. We have had to close a few times due to weather. We want to keep all of our seniors safe. We did have lots of fun with one another. We missed you so come on in this next month. I know you have been wanting to, so just do it. Now I know what you are saying to yourself, you are saying I am not going that place is for old people. Guess what you are only as old as you feel. Believe me sometimes I feel 20 years old again and sometimes I feel like I am 90. I would love for some new people to start coming in and seeing just how much fun you can have. We are for anyone 55 years and older.
March is full of activities. Don’t forget to call the center or check online to get an updated calendar for our lunches and activities for the next month. We always have fun things planned and would love to have you come out. Take the opportunity to take a look the calendar of events we have scheduled. You can find our calendar on the website https://thurmontseniorcenter.org/ on Facebook or come into the center and ask for one.
February was a fun filled month. We had busy lunches and delivered a lot of lunches. We had two great bingos. We stretched and exercised, we played Farkle, Hand and Foot, Pinochle, and Poker. We laughed and laughed. We also had coffee, tea and goodies galore. We had our monthly birthday party where we had cake and ice cream and celebrated everyone who had a February birthday. You just never know how much fun you can have. We would love for you to join us for some fun and fellowship.

It is always a fun time full of laughter and special homemade treats for halftime. I can’t forget to mention coffee we are told it is the best, so come in and have a cup with us. Friday’s, we have Zumba we also offer Poker. We also have on the 3rd Thursday of the month a Veterans Coffee. Where veterans and their family can come and have some coffee, snacks and fellowship with other veterans. Just a reminder if Frederick County Public schools are closed due to weather the Thurmont Senior Center is closed as well with no lunches being served. If they have a 2-hour delay, we will be opening at our regular time 9 a.m. If for some reason schools are already closed because of a holiday or teacher in service days if the snow emergency plan is in effect we are closed.
The Thurmont Senior Center is available to rent for different activities as well. Like perhaps a baby shower, a birthday party or a bridal shower.
We are a 501 c 3 organization that does not get county funding. We rely on donations, grants, and fundraisers. We are so very thankful for those who have been so generous to us. We could use donations of water, soda and snacks if you would like some suggestions.
As always if you have questions don’t hesitate to call us at 301-271-7911.
Just a reminder some activities may have a minimal cost but to join the center is absolutely free.
