June 2025

June Senior Moments

By Kristen Bodmer

Summer is just around the corner. I hope you all are taking the time to enjoy the beautiful weather but if you need to beat the heat come in for a visit.  You will be happy you did.

We hit a new record in April with a total of 650 meals served and 255 of those meals being delivered.  I am so happy that we offer the meal delivery for those who are homebound.  We have also had an increase in lunches being picked up.  Don’t worry, if you see something on the menu you would like but you can’t come in to eat you can order it and pick it up anytime that afternoon. We have such a great lunch program you want to come in and try it.

We had a busy May.  Two Bingo’s with lots of people and lots of homemade treats at halftime.  We had a successful Bake Sale at Roy Rogers. Nancy and Carol go all out for the bake sales.  You don’t want to miss next months, June 12, 2025. We enjoyed lots of fun activities like exercise and card games. A lot of laughter and fun times were had.

June is full of activities.  Take the opportunity to take a look the calendar of events we have scheduled. You can find our calendar on the website https://thurmontseniorcenter.org/ on Facebook or come into the center and ask for one.  We will happily get you one.

We would love for you to join us for a free balance and strength exercise session daily, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday beginning at 11:00-11:45. We play Pinochle on Tuesday at 1:00, We have Bunko on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 1:00 and Farkle on the 4th Thursday at 1:00. We also play Bingo every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, if we have a 5th Wednesday, we have an extra Bingo. It is always a fun time full of laughter and special homemade treats for halftime. I can’t forget to mention coffee we are told it is the best, so come in and have a cup with us. Friday’s, we have Zumba we also offer Poker. Also, a reminder we have a whole corner dedicated to exercise.  We have 2 treadmills, and a recumbent bicycle for use during our hours 9-3 there is no charge to use this equipment.

We have some of the best volunteers around.  Did you know that there is a Maryland Senior Citizens Hall of Fame? We have had several, nine to be exact, seniors nominated and win The Senior Citizen Hall of Fame. We have had winners consecutively for 2014,2015,2016,2017 and then again 2022, 2023 and 2024.  We are waiting to hear if our nominee Kaye Isanogle will be the 2025 winner.  It just goes to show how wonderful and top notch our volunteers are.  Thank you to all who volunteer at our center.  We could not do it without you.

As always if you have questions don’t hesitate to call us at 301-271-7911.

Just a reminder some activities may have a minimal cost but to join the center is absolutely free.
