Winter is here, and we are ready to celebrate Christmas and bring in the New Year. As this year comes to a close, I just want to say “thank you” to all of our seniors for a wonderful year. I have enjoyed every single day with each of you.
December is full of activities. Take the opportunity to look at the calendar of events we have scheduled. You can find our calendar at www.thurmontseniorcenter.org, on Facebook, in the Community Calendar in this issue, or come into the center and ask for one.
Thanksgiving has come and gone, but we continue to be thankful for our senior center. We have been able to provide lunch for just $6.00 a meal for many, many years. Unfortunately, the time has come that, due to the increasing prices of everything, we now have to raise the price of our lunches. As of January 1, 2025, lunches will be $7.00 a meal. We have such a great lunch program, and the meals are certainly worth it. In October 2024, we served an average of 27 meals, with 13 of those meals being delivered per day. With that said, you can see how much our program is growing. We are in desperate need of volunteers to deliver daily meals. We deliver meals within six miles of the center. If you have a day that you could come to the center at 11:30 a.m. and deliver meals, we would be so grateful. Please give me a call at the center.
November was a fun-filled month. We had two exciting bingos. We stretched and exercised, and we played Farkle, Hand and Foot, Pinochle Dominoes, and Poker. We laughed and laughed. We also enjoyed coffee, tea, and goodies galore. You just never know how much fun you can have. We would love for you to join us for some fun and fellowship. We have a free balance and strength exercise session on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday beginning at 11:00 a.m. We play lots of games, too! We have Pinochle, Bunko, Farkle, and more! We also play Bingo every first, third, and fifth Wednesday of the month. It’s always a good time, full of laughter and special homemade treats for halftime. Come in for a cup of coffee—we are told it is the best! We also have a whole corner dedicated to exercise: two treadmills, a recumbent bicycle, and an elliptical. Use the equipment free of charge during our hours, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
A delicious lunch is served every day at noon. Please call the day before to sign up for lunch. Menus are at the center, on Facebook, and on our website at thurmontseniorcenter.org.
As a reminder, with COVID, flu, and cold season upon us, if you have symptoms or are not feeling well, please stay home. We have some COVID tests at the center if you need one. We want to keep everyone as healthy as we can.
The Thurmont Senior Center is available to rent for different activities as well, such as a baby shower, a birthday party, or a bridal shower.
Don’t forget to call the center or check online to get an updated calendar for our lunches and activities for the next month. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to call us at 301-271-7911.
Just a reminder that some activities may have a minimal cost but to join the center is absolutely free.
